Kwantlen University College Elections

Ah, the Kwantlen Student Association, the only students' union where the RCMP stops by to investigate three times in a single year!

Steve Lee, a Kwantlen student, has compiled a number of documents relating to the 2006 KSA elections. These include complaints filed from the three main slates in this election: Reduce All Fees ("RAF"), Student Movement Party ("SMP"), and Common Sense Initiative ("CSI"). The election results were simple: RAF swept all the positions that it contested, including all nine members of the Board of Directors.

But all is not as it seems. Steve Lee has submitted reports to the Elections Committee alleging that the provisions in the KSA Bylaws relating to notice were not complied with, and that he was improperly denied the right to run in the elections. Furthermore, the Ombudsperson has released a ruling essentially concurring with Mr. Lee's allegations, and advising the Board of Directors to rule the election invalid. This has not been done.

Mr. Gregory, if you could prove once that the RCMP stops by Kwantlen University College 3 times a year I would die a happy man. It is your responsibility to write accurate information. How strange that the same person who was chairing an SGM at the college to remove elected officials, who were all part of the R.A.F party, is the same person to throw mud at the whole student association. You're a disgrace and taking cheap shots at the KSA by hinting towards the fact that the incumbent board is full of law breaking hoodlums who have to deal with the police all the time is shameful. I urge you to get in touch with any board member of the KSA and they'll be more than happy to clarify any misconceptions you may have.

Mr. Gregory is far from a disgrace. Do a little research before you open your mouth.

There have been a number of RCMP files open on the KSA, stretching back over the past year, involving actually, both the old and new boards:

1. The first dates back to an incident between elected officials Rigel Vincent and Kristina Kearly, VS. a number of staff people. This took place during the Spring 2005 General Election. I don't have a file number.

2. The second dates back to the Spring 2005 General Election. I believe the RCMP were called in after the CRO got angry at some staff and yelled at them. Some of those staff may or may not have had connections to RAF. Alas, I do not have a police file number, but the CRO was told to take one weeks stress leave and warned that any further outbursts would result in his dismissal. As the Donald would say – You’re fired!

3. The third also dates back to the Spring 2005 General Election, where the ballot boxes for the Newton Campus were stolen. RCMP File Number 05-23664. So there is proof positive number 1. You're two files away from dying a happy man. Notes from the CRO regarding his investigation into this matter are online:

So, moving onto the new Board of Directors...

4. On May 27, 2005 the KSA Board of Directors had a Council Meeting. At said meeting, motions were moved to ban Rigel and Kristina from all KSA premises and then a motion was moved to move the Board of Directors meeting into the KSA offices. Rigel was holding proxy of another voting member who was not able to come to the meeting. Mr. Pavan Bassi then physically tried to stop Mr. Vincent from entering the premises to take part in the rest of the meeting, which technically he had a legally binding allowance to attend. So they got physical and a shoving match took place, and security as well as the RCMP were called on campus. Unfortunately I don't have a file number but I do have a link to a Kwantlen Chronicle article which covered the match:

http://steveleenow.tripod.com/kwantlen/chronicle/200506/092605sparring.pdf

5 and 6. The KSA September 29, 2005 SGM. These files are active and relate to various frauds surrounding the SGM: 05-126282 and 05-126202, one filed by a member of the KSA Board of Directors at that time as well as a staff person of the society. So that makes file numbers 2 and 3 for you. You can now officially die a happy man! Of course, your initial post relates to the new Board of Directors. And yes, Mr. Gregory did kindly chair a 2nd controversial SGM, which in and of itself is probably not legit but was organized more as a statement of student concern over the lack of transparency at the KSA. You can learn more about them here:

http://steveleenow.tripod.com/kwantlen/meetings/generalmeetings/index.htm

But alas, there is more!

7. The last one is kinda strange. In March 2006 the KSA Board of Directors apparently fired some staff. Some altercations happened that ultimately involved Mr. Pavan Bassi and Mr. Nuvraj Bassi getting into a physical altercation with some elected officials (I've even heard Kulvir Gill got clocked a good one). This resulted in Pavan being fired (Nuvraj was one of the staff originally fired that may have been the cause of all this), and it resulted in the Surrey Campus Director being impeached as well as the VP-External being impeached (Harvey Mann), and Danish Butt, President, resigning. Apparently though, Danish is back, meaning a resignation has no meaning with these guys and the physical altercation that I mentioned above is the subject of the 7th open RCMP file on the KSA, the 4th of which has taken place since RAF came to power. RCMP file No. 06-36561. Apparently the charges against the Bassi's are very serious, and their are rumours that the KSA may pursue the Bassi's in civil court.

Oh yeah, and did you read about the KSA General Election?

http://steveleenow.tripod.com/kwantlen/elections/spring2006general/index.htm

It was a farce, just like the 2005 general election was a farce. And the Ombudsperson released a 20+ page report documenting clearly just some of the many things that were clearly wrong with that election, and he's supposed to have a 2nd report out sometime soon.

So I urge you to get in touch with the KSA and ask why they are so secretive? Why don't they advertise their council meetings? Why are their no meeting minutes online? Why has the Surrey office been closed for most of March and April? Why do the Richmond reps and directors lock themselves away in their offices all day with the blinds closed? Why? Why? Why?

Mr. Gregory is far from making cheap shots at the KSA. Open your eyes. Ask questions about your KSA.
