Conflicting Meetings?

The Canadian Conference for Student Associations (CCSA) and the Federation of Canadian Student Leaders (FCSL) are not the only organizations putting on conferences these days, it seems. As it turns out, the Association of Managers in Canadian College, University and Student Centres (AMICUSS-C) is also putting on a conference. This conference, called the National Professionals Conference 2006, will be taking place in St. Catherines, Ontario on June 3 - 7, 2006 - on exactly the same dates that the Federation of Canadian Student Leaders will be hosting their conference. In essence, the FCSL is forcing students' union managers to choose between their professional association and itself....
..................
UPDATE (2006-05-09): Sorry, my mistake. As has been pointed out in the comments, AMICUSS-C and the FCSL are in fact holding their conferences at the same location, thus enabling people from student unions to attend both conferences.

Actually, the AMICCUS-C National Professional Conference is being held in Scarborough not St. Catharines and is held every year around the same time. From 2001 until 2004 it was held as part of CCSA (then the Congress of Canadian Student Associations).

We are grateful for the fact that the AMICCUS-C NPC and the FCSL are being held in the same city at the time...our staff and students can attend these conferences together. It saves us money, provides for team building among our new student leaders and among our students and staff and allows for personal & professional development for all....in a friendly environment.

The confusion is easily explained since the Brock SU is organizing. It happens. Titus is doing a great job reporting stories that affect us all. Keep up the good work!

As a delegate at the conference, I can assure this conference was a gong show. There was no professional development at all and most of the time the delegates went to shop than attend the lame sessions. One thing the FCSL steering committee and the presenters asserted was that we love AMICCUS-C and should listen to their commands. Also, they reiterated over and over again that we need to "suck up" to our adminstrators and government officials so we can get jobs with them after. FCSL is a week of my life I will never get back.
